Watching my mom go black, as Katie Angel would say, has been a liberating experience for both of us. It's allowed us to connect on a deeper level, to understand each other in ways we never thought possible. My mom is more confident, more vibrant, and more herself.

Her language, tone, and body language all seemed to be changing. She was becoming more assertive, more confident, and more...black. Not just in the literal sense, but in the way she carried herself, her attitude, and her cultural expressions. It was as if she was embracing a part of herself that I had never seen before.
