Forbidden Empire , originally titled Viy (Вий), is a Russian fantasy-horror film directed by Oleg Stepchenko. Loosely based on the classic Nikolai Gogol story of the same name, the film follows an 18th-century cartographer, Jonathan Green, who ventures deep into a mysterious Transylvanian forest. There, he encounters a village plagued by dark supernatural forces — including witches, demons, and the legendary monstrous creature known as Viy.
